The Patagonia School of Fly Fishing

In a new book book, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard evangelizes his, "the more you know, the less you need philosophy.

For someone with a vested interest in selling goods for exploring the great outdoors, Yvon Chouinard, the owner and founder of the outdoor-apparel company Patagonia, takes a surprisingly stripped-down approach to one of his favorite pastimes. "Heaven knows we fly fishers are suckers for every new gizmo we think will give us a leg up on catching fish," he writes in "Simple Fly Fishing: Techniques for Tenkara and Rod & Reel."

The centerpiece of the book launch is Patagonia's Simple Fly Fishing kit that comes with everything needed to get started: a tenkara-style fly fishing rod, box of flies, line and leader, quick set-up guide and a copy of the book. Throughout the month of April, Patagonia stores will host casting clinics and book signings with Patagonia Provisions tastings in the following areas: Ventura, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Portland, Boulder, Denver, St. Paul, Dillon, Chicago, Freeport, Austin and Salt Lake City.

A portion of the proceeds from the book, which can be purchased separately, will be donated to various conservation organizations.

All Fishermen Are Liars

In addition to a starring role in one of the 2014 F3T films, and cameo in another, John Geirach is soon to be out with a new book.

In All Fishermen Are Liars, Gierach travels across North America from the Pacific Northwest to the Canadian Maritimes to seek out quintessential fishing experiences. Whether he's fishing a busy stream or a secluded lake amid snow-capped mountains, Gierach insists that fishing is always the answer-even when it's not clear what the question is. All Fishermen Are Liars covers fishing topics large and small: the art of fly-tying and the quest for the perfect steelhead fly; fishing in the Presidential Pools previously fished by the first President George Bush; and the importance of traveling with like-minded companions when caught in a soaking downpour. ("At this point someone is required to say, 'You know, there are people who wouldn't think this is fun.'")
Gierach may occasionally lose a fish, but he never loses his passion for fishing or his sense of humor.

In conjunction with the April book launch Geirach will also be embarking on a multi city book signing tour.

Portait of a Fly Fishing Legend

Bill Schaadt was one of the most prolific anglers and unique individuals to ever cast a fly line in California's North Coast rivers. Arguably one of the greatest anglers that ever lived, Bill was a legend long before he passed away in 1995, and anglers who knew Bill still talk about him today as if he were just around the next bend.

Now, in a beautiful tribute to this amazing individual is a collection of fascinating tales as told by 30 of his friends - those who had the unforgettable experience of fishing with him. With 208 pages, and over 100 pictures in full color, this hard-cover book spans the forty years that Bill fished - 1955 to 1995. These were the "heyday" years of steelhead and salmon fishing on the West Coast, and Bill's passing may well have marked the end of that era.

I Know Bill Schaadt is available in a hard-cover Regular Edition or a special, Limited Edition of just 150 copies. The Limited Edition comes with a beautiful matching slipcase and will be personally numbered and signed by the author, Ben Taylor.
