Howells: The Bamboo Rods and Fly Fishing Legacy of Gary H. Howells

Howells: the Bamboo Rod & Fly Fishing Legacy of Gary H. Howells by Joseph H. Beelart, Jr. is the saga of an American master craftsman whose bamboo fly rods are among the finest ever built.  It speaks of a man who transcended craft into art.  But this book is more than Howells life-long devotion to bamboo rods and fly fishing.  It is a memory of a wide San Francisco and Montana fly fishing circle during the last half of the 20th century.

Let My People Go Fishing

This new book by Yvon Chouinard, Craig Mathews, and Mauro Mazzo, reveals the best way to catch trout: simply, with a rod and a fly and not much else. It teaches how to discover where the fish are and what they are feeding on, then demonstrates techniques to present a fly, make it look life-like, and hook the fish.

"Simple Fly Fishing: Techniques for Tenkara and Rod & Reel" will be available from Patagonia Books in spring 14.

Fly Fishing the Inland Oceans

After three years of on-water "research" and hundreds of hours banging away on the computer, Jerry Darkes's first book, Fly Fishing the Inland Oceans is on the market. This is the first-ever, comprehensive look at fly fishing IN the Great Lakes.  All five Great Lakes are reviewed along with Lake St. Clair and various connecting waters.  Both warmwater and cloldwater fish species are covered with the techniques and equipment needed to catch them.  There are also over 160 fly patterns presented with recipes for Great Lakes use.

The book is held in such high regard by anglers that is still being published today

An incredibly rare 170-year-old book credited with transforming fishing from a gentleman’s hobby into a nationwide phenomenon has emerged for sale.

The Royal Wulff Murders

In McCafferty's compelling debut, a young man is found dead with a Royal Wulff trout fly stuck through his lip. Sheriff Martha Ettinger's investigation leads her to cross paths with fly fisher, painter, and has-been private detective Sean Stranahan. As the water temperature rises, the clues point them both toward Montana's big business: fly fishing. Where there's money, there's bound to be crime.
