Fish Schtick Episode – 87 – Christine Warren

Christine Warren may be better known out there as The Fly Fish Chick but it’s the publication of her new book, PADDLEFISH, that sets up her story on the latest episode of The Fish Schtick.

On a sweltering summer day in 2010, Christine Warren stepped into a 24-foot canoe and paddled toward a goal that she never previously imagined possible. The Texas Water Safari is a 260-mile paddle race from the Texas Hill Country to the Gulf Coast. Run continuously since 1963, the course follows the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers to the coastal fishing town of Seadrift. Paddlers must complete the race in 100 hours. While the exhausting pace and blistering heat are reason enough to bow out, it’s the ancillary hurdles that often eliminate racers long before the finish line: dam portages, water moccasins, logjams, mosquitoes, dysentery, alligators, sleep deprivation, and equipment failures. Paddlefish is the first complete narrative ever published on The Texas Water Safari.

The Fish Schtick - Episode 82: Nanci Morris Lyon & Kate Taylor

Nanci and Kate are heroes. I think we actually had Kate Taylor on a long time ago in a “Live from Baja” episode, maybe? She runs Rogue Angels, a worthy visit on the web. Nanci’s responsible for the good things happening at Bear Trail Lodge, and together, they took on Pebble Mine through this year’s 24 hour Fish A Thon, they absolutely rocked the house.

They broke the Moldy w/ Kate.  Justin is the envy of many a fish bum.

Fish Schtick Episode 80 – Kristi Denton Cohen

If fly fishing has a “book,” in modern times, that book has been “A River Runs Through It,” because that book had a movie and that movie had Brad Pitt. But ask anybody who reads and who has been into fly fishing for more than a year or two what their favorite fly fishing book is, and they’re liable to say “The River Why.” If they don’t say, “The River Why,” they’ll say “Trout Bum” by John Gierach, but that’s another story.
“The River Why” by David James Duncan is epic, beloved, treasured … and now it has a movie, too – one that’s been a long time coming. It stars Zach Gilford, William Hurt, Amber Heard and Kathleen Quinlan.
In this episode of the Schtick we're joined by the producer of the moviw  Kristi Denton Cohen.

Fish Schtick Episode 76 – Frank Smethurst

Frank Smethurst is probably most famous for being the guy sprinting down the beaches of Baja with a fly rod in the Felt Soul movie “Running Down the Man.” Frank also appears in Felt Soul's latest offering Eastern Rises, has hosted Trout Unlimited’s TV Show, “On the Rise,” guided on epic waters and works as a fly fishing sales rep in the Rocky Mountains. Stuff like that creates the fodder for some good stories, so we asked him to share a few with us on the Fish Schtick.
