Zhupanova - A Kamchatka River Adventure

From Matt Jones and Tailwaters Travel

The Zhupanova is perhaps the most beautiful and scenic river in Kamchatka. Its close proximity to Petropavlovsk (one hour by helicopter) and its huge Rainbows make it perhaps the most popular river on the peninsula. The average trout living in the Zhupanova is a solid twenty-five inches! Later in the season around the first week of August, huge white spotted char known as Khundza arrive which average around twenty-seven inches and some of these veracious critters easily bust thirty-five inches and are a rod breaking fight on a seven weight. Of course there is also enormous runs of all five species of salmon (particularly the silver or Coho), however most anglers soon discover that they are in search of the huge rainbows and do not pay any attention to the salmon. Also found in excessive numbers are aggressive dolly varden that are easy to catch, make for good photos, and will grab a mouse or flesh fly with abandon.

2nd Annual Palometa Club Permit Tourney

The team at Tailwaters Fly Fishing Company and the owners, guides, and staff at the Palometa Club are happy to announce their 2nd Annual Palometa Club Permit Tournament, April 4-11, 2014. Patagonia and Hatch Outdoors are the presenting sponsors for this year's tournament.

Identical to last year’s event, all proceeds from and donations will benefit the Jon Ain Memorial Fund for the Bonefish Tarpon Trust as well as the school children of Punta Allen.

In addition to the competing anglers and guests of the Club, there will also be several fly-fishing industry friends and partners in attendance. Matt Jones from The Fly Photo will be on hand in a chase boat documenting the trip and tournament. All participants and winners will earn sweet gifts donated by Patagonia and Hatch as well as additional sponsors like TFO, Yeti Coolers, Umpqua, The Drake, Costa del Mar, Smartshield and Fishpond. The winners of the tournament also win a gratis trip back to the Palometa Club to defend their title in 2015.

This tournament is extremely LAID BACK! Anglers of all skill levels are encouraged to join, and should not be intimidated by the informal competition. Join this great group of anglers and friends for this festive week of fishing – and really great party!

Limited space is available.

Interested in getting that Permit monkey off your back?

Then stop by Tailwaters this Thursday October 18th for an informal meet and greet Q&A with Palometa Club owner/operators, Kaye & Dick Cameron. They will be serving Kaye's homemade margaritas and appetizers along with showing some beautiful images from Ascension Bay, Mexico.

This is an opportunity to learn about their fantastic lodge and fishing program located on Ascension Bay. The Palometa Club is a fabulous all around Caribbean experience for all flats species – and the place to go if you are interested in getting that Permit monkey off your back.

Please RSVP.
