California Dreamin

A recent dispatch from Patagonia Fly Fishing Ambassador Mikey Weir.

Just got back from a little mission into a remote canyon here in Nor Cal. I was mostly there to film some climbing but i managed some fishing time too. The river was HUGE but i managed to pull some really nice trout. These two were the highlights. I'm guessing that female was over 12 lbs and the male was over 15. He gave me a nasty bite. I could barley hold him out of the water. I think he's one of the biggest i've ever caught. After that i just put my rod down. That was the trout i've been looking for for years.

Think it's worth a SOM entry?

Bowfin are also called dogfish, mudfish, brindle and WTF is that thing?

The Fish Dog sent us this disapatch and picture of fellow guide Karl Wiexelmann with a bowfin buck in full spawning mode.

Karl is an Erie, PA, based fly fishing guide, all walk & wade- Scott Pro, Patagonia user. Steelhead 9 months of the year, with warm water in May, June, July. Has a very interesting program of fly fishing for bowfin. The males get a bright lime green coloration on their fins during spawning. They look like something out of Jurassic Park and you can get them to eat a fly.
