Fish Schtick Episode 97 – Derek Grzelewski

Only time will tell if Derek's new book, The Trout Diaries: A Year of Fly Fishing in New Zealand, will join the status of a Trout Bum or a River Why in modern fly fishing literature, but the ingredients are all there. It’s funny, full of big personalities, adventures that feel great but attainable, and written like someone who has dirt under his fingernails and a diploma on the wall. That’s a long way to say that this is an awesome book, one we enjoyed reading, and you’re going to love hearing some of the stories on this episode of The Fish Schtick.

Fish Schtick Episode 95 – Bryan Huskey

Bryan Huskey is a freelance photographer, film maker, fishing guide, and magazine ad-rep. He also shoots as much video and photos as he can – he says for selfish reasons. We first had Bryan on The Schtick this time of year in 2010, after he’d won the Oregon Fly Fishing Film Festival. He’s living the dream in between the peaks in Sun Valley, Idaho, and he wears a lot of hats, but it seems like much of the time, he must be wearing them with a camera in his hand, which he uses to its fullest capability.

His latest work, Doc of the Drakes, is currently getting rave reviews as part of the 2012 Fly Fishing Film Tour line up. We get some of the background on the making of the film as well as an update on the Doc.

Give it a listen.

Fish Schtick Episode 90 – Ivan Orsic AKA Yukon Goes Fishing

Ivan Orsic may be better known to the internet set as Yukon Goes Fishing.

At his own blog – Yukon Goes Fishing – his bio reads like this. “I’m a graduate student studying fluvial geomorphology, applied hydrology, and environmental geochemistry at a fine institution in Missoula, MT. Originally from the Atlantic Coastal Plain of the eastern US, I have always been a fan of all sorts of fishing. However, during a “family” trip up to Alaska when I was in high school, I fell in love with the sport of fly fishing.

That’s turned into a pretty sweet set of video blogs and the one that made us finally track him down for the show: Silver & Gold featuring Yukon Cornelius.

It’s a perfect Fish Schtick holiday treat.

Fish Schtick Episodes 56 and 57

We closed out the 2010 Fish Schtick campaign with two new episodes.

Episode 56 - Amanda Switzer

Though she originally went to school to become a landscape architect, Amanda Switzer became a fishing guide after working for one year too long in an office. Unhappy with the ho-hum buzz of everyday work, she thanked her boss for not firing her, politely quit, bought a flats boat and started a flyfishing-guide business in her home waters of eastern Long Island. She’s 25 years into it and now she’s building a new rod company – think she’s got a few stories to tell?

Episode 57 - Best of 2010

It’s that year-end time when everybody looks back at the peaks and valleys of the year, the hits and misses, the highs and the lows. This show is dedicated to that – some of our favorite Fish Schtick guests and moments from the year gone by.
