The Infamous Stringdusters Open 2013 American Rivers Tour at Outdoor Retailer

Grammy-nominated bluegrass outfit The Infamous Stringdusters are getting set to embark on their 2013 American Rivers Tour, an epic summer music adventure stopping through, and winding down, some of America’s wildest and most beloved rivers and surrounding communities. For the journey, The Infamous Stringdusters are partnering with the nation’s leading river conservation organization, American Rivers – currently celebrating its 40th anniversary – to raise money and awareness for protecting and restoring rivers and clean water nationwide.

The 10-date tour – being supported by Patagonia, Osprey, Klean Kanteen and Moab Brewery – starts with an Outdoor Retailer Summer Market kick-off show at The Depot in Salt Lake City, UT, on Wednesday, July 31. Tickets can be purchased through The Depot. Outdoor Retailer attendees can take advantage of a special offer and purchase tickets day of show at Patagonia’s booth (13027). The $20 price includes an organic cotton Patagonia Free the Rivers T-shirt. Ticket proceeds will benefit American Rivers.

10 Wicked Things You Missed @ Outdoor Retailer: #9, Stainless Steel Keg Cups

Two epic lines wound around the Patagonia booth for the giveaway, with a $5 donation going to Yvon's cause du jour. All for a relatively simple thing: stainless steel keg cups, tagged with the phrase of "Ditch Single Use Plastic & Protect Habitat for All Species."

The things were clearly the red hot shwag of the show, as texts and phone calls were being made from the line ("yes, the Patagonia booth, NOW")

Outdoor Retailer goes through 14,000 disposable cups over the course of 4 days. Patagonia sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 of the reusable stainless cups.

We still believe the fly trade made a strategic error not opting to join the Outdoor Retailer show while they had the chance, this year's OR Show was on fuego.

Patagonia and ExOfficio ask other recreation companies to join the Save Bristol Bay campaign at the Outdoor Retailer show

Patagonia and Ex-Officio led an effort at last week's Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City, to encourage others in the industry to join the diverse, bipartisan coalition that is working to protect Bristol Bay from the threat of the proposed Pebble Mine. Both companies hosted a happy hour with Trout Unlimited to raise awareness of the Pebble Mine issue, and ask people and outdoor retailers to join them in taking action. Patagonia also held a drawing in their booth and gave away some Gooch gear and the Ben Knight sockeye image pictured above.

Earlier this year Patagonia did an e-mail blast urging their customers to take action and urge the EPA to stop the development of the Pebble Mine.....that push generated 14,000 emails to the EPA.
