A Tale of Two Trade Shows

An expanded number of fly fishing companies and retailers were in attendance at this year's Outdoor Retailer show that just wrapped up in Salt Lake City. In addition to Redington, who was exhibiting for a second time, new show exhibitors included Orvis, Umpqua, Montana Fly Company, Fikkes and Tenkara USA. The option of the IFTD show moving in with Outdoor Retailer in the future was also on the agenda as representatives for both trade organizations held a meeting at the show.

The ongoing discussion regarding the future of the IFTD show will certainly be front and center as that show begins its run in Reno in less than two weeks.

We've made no secret of our view that IFTD would be better served joining forces with Outdoor Retailer as opposed to the opton of joining ICAST, or continuing with its current strategy. To get a taste of the breadth of Outdoor Retailer hit the images to read the show dailys from DAY 1 and DAY 2 of the show.

I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans

Should be a fair amount of buzz coming out of this weeks IFTD show.

MidCurrent and Angling Trade have partnered up and will be reporting what's new from the show, including a full rundown on the new product showcase.

Fly Rod and Reel will be offering live coverage from the show floor.

The Drake Video Awards will take place the first night of the show so those clips should be popping up soon and and the Iron Fly Competition returns for another year.

Stand by for our view from the show floor and beyond, we're exploring the bayou today with Patagonia Fly Fishing Ambassador Bryan Carter.

Wicked Outdoorsy weighs in on the Big Easy

Drewbo at Wicked Outdoorsy sums up the latest IFTD show and what the move to New Orleans means for the future of the show.

The kicker, of course, has nothing to do with the exhibitors, and everything to do with the retailers. In moving the show away from the Rocky Mountains, the gathering is now a couple flights further away from a huge chunk of fly shops and guides who used to load up their pickup trucks and drive to Denver for the show.

If the retailers don't come to New Orleans next year, the honeymoon will officially be over.
