Wicked Outdoorsy weighs in on the Big Easy

Drewbo at Wicked Outdoorsy sums up the latest IFTD show and what the move to New Orleans means for the future of the show.

The kicker, of course, has nothing to do with the exhibitors, and everything to do with the retailers. In moving the show away from the Rocky Mountains, the gathering is now a couple flights further away from a huge chunk of fly shops and guides who used to load up their pickup trucks and drive to Denver for the show.

If the retailers don't come to New Orleans next year, the honeymoon will officially be over.

Thank you. That's also been my feelings. And for the East Coast guys, shops, reps, and manufacturers, it's really no closer nor less expensive than Denver. So far everyone I've talked to seems to be upbeat about it, so I was thinking maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I have serious doubts as to whether that will be a successful show.

When it shakes out, Fuck the show. We don't have much place at OR and if some retailers want to go, go ahead, They'll have a limited # of retailers interested in talking to them. Fly-fishing doesn't have the means or channels like surf and other sports. It's just what it is. If the IFTD doesn't have the #'s, call a spade a spade. Hang it up and make some of these Reps earn it. Without the show it will likely force retailers and manufacturers to make a little more effort on these matters. Force some innovation for the $ whores.
