Marine sanctuary in Florida Keys seeks public comments

Here's your chance to help protect the Florida Keys.

The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and its advisory council are seeking public comment on issues related to sanctuary boundaries, marine zones, Key West and Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge's Backcountry Management Plan, and associated regulations. The comments received will guide a review of the marine zones and regulations, and shape Florida Keys marine conservation for decades to come.

Interior Department Eyes Removal Of Non-Native Trout From Colorado River

Non-native trout, while prized by anglers who fish the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam, threaten to wipe out native species in the river that can't compete with them. While Interior Department officials have a plan to remove the trout, it's effectiveness is being questioned.

More dam good news?

The Icelandic Government has accepted NASF‘s objections to a new hydro-electric generating scheme on Iceland‘s biggest river and suspended the plans to build three dams to power generation plants.

Iceland‘s largest power company had proposed a hydro project for the Thjórsá, Iceland's biggest river system and home to brown trout, sea trout, char and the countries largest stock of wild salmon.

Many of Iceland's rivers and Geothermal areas remain under serious threat from planned dams, reservoirs, geothermal exploitation and planned heavy industry projects

Dreamland is a documentary film that documents what happened when Iceland built the biggest dam in Europe to provide Alcoa cheap electricity for an aluminum smelter in the rugged east fjords of Iceland.
