"It sure beats sitting home watching TV"

A Virginia angler is trying to stop a unique fishing technique.......following the hatchery truck.

Corbin Beach, an 86-year old from Roanoke, is one of those truck followers.

Beach and his buddies gather at Hanging Rock to wait for the hatchery truck from Paint Bank to go by. When it arrives, they fall in behind it convoy style and follow it to its stocking destination. Once the location is determined, the truck followers can alert their buddies .

It is a festive occasion, and can involve someone bringing a camp stove to cook trout on the stream bank. It sure beats sitting home watching TV, Beach said.

For trout fishermen, climate change will mean more driving time, less angling

When trying to explain the potential effects of climate change on plants, fish and wildlife, scientists usually resort to language that fails to convey the impact of warming. Now, a study by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences fisheries researchers clearly explains the impact of projected warming waters on wild brook trout in the eastern U.S. for fishermen.

Emergency closure of recreational fishing in most Olympic National Park rivers and streams

The beat goes on.

To protect fish during the ongoing severe drought conditions, an emergency closure of recreational fishing goes into effect today on most rivers and streams within Olympic National Park.

Current conditions have made Pacific salmon, steelhead and bulltrout exceptionally vulnerable because of low stream flows and high water temperatures.

The following river systems within Olympic National Park will close to all recreational fishing on Aug. 10: Bogachiel, South Fork Calawah, Sol Duc, North Fork Sol Duc, Dickey, Queets, Salmon, Quinault, and North Fork Skokomish Rivers (including East and North Forks) and their tributaries and Cedar, Goodman, Kalaloch, and Mosquito Creeks in the Pacific coastal area.
