Carp in the news

A British angler has caught what is believed to be a world record carp.

The giant fish tipped the scales at 99lbs – just 1lb short to the 'holy grail' 100lb weight that every carp angler across the world dreams of catching.

Meanwhile Britain mourns the loss of yet another famous, albeit not to bright, carp.

British fishing enthusiasts are mourning the death of a 52-pound leather carp that was caught and set free an estimated 1,000 times during its lifetime.

She was the Dame Judi Dench of the fish world," said Ben Weir of Angler's Mail magazine.

The Irwin recently engaged Libyan and Italian trawlers towing what were likely illegally netted tuna. The Irwin was able to get divers into the water to cut open one of the two nets releasing 800 tuna.

The Libyans and the Italians are not pleased.

Neither is this guy.

Ault said this year's count yielded an estimate of 450,000 bonefish in 1,575 square miles of the census region. The average since 1998 has been 330,000. But April's count was influenced by unusually good weather and the distribution of fishermen in the census area.
