Stand

An adventure documentary showcasing the west coast of British Columbia and what's at stake with the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline.

STAND, presented by Quiksilver Waterman, will take viewers on a journey through the waters of B.C.'s west coast. Through the stories of an aboriginal high school class building their own stand-up paddleboards as a form of protest, the efforts of expedition stand-up paddler Norm Hann, and the powerful surfing of iconic west coast native Raph Bruhwiler, the diversity of people, landscape and wildlife that would be affected by an oil spill will be articulated. STAND will take you to the core of the issue and unfurl the soul of B.C.'s west coast one paddle stroke at a time.

Morrison Lake mine rejected by B.C. government

Some good news coming out of Canada and some potential bad PR for a certain mine project in Alaska that sits on top of the world's greatest sockeye run.

Plans for a copper and gold mine in the province’s northwest have been rejected by the B.C. government because it could endanger salmon in the Skeena River.

The proposed Morrison Mine project was planned to be located directly beside Morrison Lake, at the headwaters of the Skeena River, the second-largest producer of sockeye salmon in B.C.

The government decision was only the second time a mine has been rejected in the history of B.C. environmental review.

Nov. Slab of the Month: BC Bull Trout

From the inbox:

My name is Andrew Luu

This big BC Bull Trout was caught in the Kootenay Region floating a white wooly bugger. He took me for 3 massive runs downstream so I knew it was going to be a good one. After successfully dragging this bully back up stream, I finally landed what has ended up being my personal best Bull Trout.

Thanks for reading,

Andrew.

March Slab of the Month: Squamish Steel

Bryce Franks sends us a snap of his first winter steelhead on the fly stating "I guess I should hang up the rod and call it quits now."  Not a bad idea.

Take action to protect BC's coast from oil spills

Snapz Pro XScreenSnapz001

For 37 years the northern coastal waters of British Columbia have
been protected from oil tanker traffic. This ban is now under threat. Plans to build pipelines and a supertanker port in BC to service the
Alberta Tar Sands are moving forward with support from the BC and
Canadian Governments. LINK

Dogwood Initiative is distributing 200,000 removable decals. These
decals can be applied to most smooth surfaces including plastic, glass
and metal. Once applied, each decal will help spread the word about oil
spills from proposed Tar Sands Tankers on the coast of BC's Great Bear
Rainforest. LINK
