20 Pounds? Not Too Bad, for an Extinct Fish

Pyramid Lake, already famous for its ladders and large Lahontans, is now kicking out large Pilot Peak Cutthroats, direct descendants of the of the vanished Pyramid Lake strain of Lahontan Cutthroat Trout.

In 2006, the Lahontan NFHC, in partnership with the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe began stocking Pilot Peak Lahontan Cutthroat Trout into Pyramid Lake. Over 780,000 juvenile Pilot Peak LCT have been stocked in a variety of locations around Pyramid Lake.

They waited to see how the fish might readapt to its ancestral home.

The answer came from ecstatic anglers.
