Alaka Bans Felt Sole
Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 10:41AM
The Alaska Board of Fisheries has adopted a statewide ban on felt sole wading shoes beginning January 1, 2012.
Ted Williams has posted the TU press release applauding the move.
Because the ban is now statewide the Southeast Alaska ban on felt has been delayed until 2012 to coincide with the statewide measure.
Maybe the last sentence of TU the press release should me amended?
Between now and when the statewide prohibition on felt sole takes effect, TU urges anglers to always inspect, clean and dry their all fishing gear as a way to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.
Gives me the impression that once the ban takes effect there is no need to clean dry and inspect.

Well, simms had better come up with something better than this streamtread boots that they have jammed down our throat. After 4 months of use mine are shit! FELT OR DIE!!!
This article needs to be re-read then re-written....
Alaka?
Alaka a lot
typos happen... so waht?
fishface,
I call my new Simms boots streamdreads. Feel free to coopt that word!
I'm keeping a pair of felts handy for the basalt snotty death rocks around here with the understanding that I will continue to clean, check and dry.
The only good thing about my streamdreads is that they won't tear up the bottom of my inflatable.
As an aside can anybody tell me why we haven't banned ballast tanks on wakeboats yet? they are an exponentially more effective vector for invasives than my felt soles.
Did I spell red herring correctly?
Doing away with felt soles doesn't solve the problem that Invasive species can be transported in the laces, upper portions of our boots, and waders.
Streamdreads, eh? I like that.
If Alaska cares enough about its river and fish to ban felt, why the hell is Pebble Mine even an issue.
But Simms can't get Vibram to slap a yellow logo your laces or fabric uppers to spilt some of their costs. That's the real reason felt's on its way out, and the fly industry sheep are eating out of Simms' hands as usual.
Shoved down our throat is right. Streamtreads can suck it.
Say it with me now, streamdreads!
