Does it require permission to paint somebody else work? Regardless its a fantastic rendition of the original image.

Depends... it gets complicated with fair use laws and appropriation art... Shepard Fairey is being sued by the Assoicated Press over his famous Obama "Hope" illustration, because he did not have the photgrapher's permission to use the picture that was the basis of the illustration...

Funny I missed this one. The photographer Tom Montgomery is a close friend of mine and gave me permission to use this image. Yes you must have permission always to paint from a photographers images. You'll see many paintings of mine from images of well-known photographers.
