Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is currently accepting comments on selecting “Wild Steelhead Gene Banks” in three Puget Sound Regions: (1) North Cascades, (2) Central/South Puget Sound and (3) Hood Canal and Strait of Juan de Fuca.

If you care about wild steelhead, please vote today.

Comments must be received no later than 5p.m. Pacific time on August 13, 2015.

Bill McMillan shares his secrets and experiences on river snorkeling, from safety and equipment to your first outing. With extremely low rivers in the Pacific Northwest, this is a way to engage with steelhead and still get on, er, in the river.

Keep the Wild Wild Tour

The Wild Steelhead Coalition is proud to present, with support from Patagonia, a seven-city film tour featuring North Fork Studios/Shane Anderson’s Wild Reverence. In ten days the tour will kick off in Spokane and then head to Bozeman and Boise before making its way back for some west coast venues. The goal of the film and the tour is to raise awareness and a call to action to protect wild steelhead and their habitat.

Tickets for all the shows are available via Ticket River and links are provided below. Following the screening in Seattle there will be a tour wrap party hosted by Tini Bigs which is just a short walk from the theater.

About Wild Reverence: Filmmaker Shane Anderson made a pilgrimage to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state to the rivers he once fished as a boy. His relationship with the wild steelhead and the rivers in which they met upon taught him just how precious life can be. What was once a childhood fishing trip has evolved into a journey to find answers why his favorite fish is disappearing from the rivers and appearing on the Endangered Species list. How could this wild and beautiful creature slip toward the abyss of extinction?

WILD REVERENCE embarks on a quest to begin a movement to enact real change not only for the steelhead but for all ecosystems.

Tell WDFW to implement Emergency Rule Change for WSMZs, North Fork Stillaguamish

As the result of some very recent events the Wild Steelhead Coalition believes that it is both appropriate and important that the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission adopt the two regulation changes that would improve upon the recovery efforts with the recently established Wild Steelhead Managment Zones of the East Fork Lewis, North Fork Toutle/Green, and Wind Rivers, and actions to help mitigate impacts to the steelhead fishery of the North Fork Stillaguamish as a result of the March 22, 2014 Oso Slide.

The 2013 edition of the Fly Fishing Film tour rolls into Seattle tonight for a sold out show at Seattle's SIFF Cinema. In addition to what will be a rocking house once the lights go down, there are two post show parties to benefit local groups dedicated to wild fish.

Capt. Keith and the folks at Tini Bigs will keep it rolling with drink specials, and a raffle for some great schwag from Sage, Patagonia, Simms, Ex Officio, Redington and RIO with proceeds going to support the Wild Fish Conservancy.

RA Beattie and Ryan Buccola of the Scorpion Expedition and Beattie Outdoor Productions are throwing an after party at Floyd's Place where you can meet the film team and also have a few adult beverages. Proceeds from the bar and raffle are being donated to support the Wild Steelhead Coalition.

Both parties are walking distance from the SIFF so there's no reason to not to swing by and support both. If history is any indication this night will register on the Richter scale so pack your spare liver, a designated driver or some cab fare if you plan on tying one on for wild fish. Speaking of tying one on. Travis Lowe of Cinema Digital Productions, and the man behind the tour selection Thai One On, will also be in the house.
