WE SPOKE; WILL ASMFC LISTEN?

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Striped Bass Management Board will meet ten seven days from today.

In roughly 240 hours, we’ll know whether managers have taken meaningful steps to conserve and hopefully restore the Atlantic migratory striped bass stock, or whether they abandoned their obligation to the public at large and chose to pander to the small minority of people who profit from killing this public resource.

Striped Bass Need Your Help!

Here is your chance to make a difference for striped bass.

The Atlantic coastal states and jurisdictions have scheduled hearings to gather public comment on Draft Amendment lV to Amendment 6 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Striped Bass.

Captain John McMurray explains how you can make a difference by attending one of the public hearings or by sumbitting a written comment.

Below is a comment crafted by Stripers Forever that you can e-mail to Mike Waine, Fishery Management Plan Coordinator. (Subject line: Draft Addendum IV.)

I believe that reductions in striped bass quotas should conserve the greatest number of large fish in the shortest amount of time. It has taken way too long to get a commitment to conservation while the harvesting limits have stayed level in spite of a documented decline in the species.... especially the large breeders. I support the 25% reduction in quota in one year, the elimination of all trophy seasons, and conservative maximum size restrictions protecting fish over 34" in length.
