Fish Biologist Alleges Huge Discrepancy in Pebble Salmon Estimates

Pebble opponents are saying they're deeply concerned over apparent discrepancies in Pebble's $120 million dollar environmental study on its own proposed project.

Dr. Carol Woody says that Pebble may be underestimating salmon populations -- in streams that will be affected by its mines a thousand-fold.

"We can now say that restoration of anadromous salmon in Olympic National Park is underway"

Adult chinook salmon were observed on the Elwha River in Olympic National Park, park officials and biologists reported, less than five months after removal of one of the two dams.

These are the first observed Elwha River salmon to naturally migrate upstream into the park, according to a statement released by the park.

Parasite Ridden Salmon Sold in B.C. Stores

Salmon farming giant Marine Harvest is having an issue with a flesh-eating myxosporean parasite called Kudoa thyrsitesKudoa causes post-mortem myoliquefaction (soft-flesh syndrome) in farmed salmon on sale in supermarkets and is causing a financial loss for Marine Harvest.

Costco’s manager admitted on the hidden camera that 1 out of every 200 fillets of farmed salmon on sale is infected with the parasite Kudoa.  “Some are more mushy than others,” he said.  “Some you pick up and they’re like paste.  Once every couple of days we get a few like this.”

According to Marine Harvest's annual report they spent 12 million dollars last year to get rid of infected fish and provide refunds.

”Right now, all the water is going to the Central Valley

The Hoopa Vally Tribe have asked the Bureau of Reclamarition to release more water from the Trinity into the Klamath to prevent another possible salmon kill this fall.

The Trinity River is the Klamath's largest tributary, and water is often diverted from the river to farmers and residents of Southern California. After intervention by Dick Cheney in 2002, the diversion ordered led to a massive salmon kill on the Klamath.
