Highlights from Patagonia’s “Our Common Waters” Environmental Campaign 2011-2013

Over the past two years, Patagonia’s major environmental campaign has been Our Common Waters. Focusing on water scarcity, broken rivers and pollution, as well as Patagonia’s use of water as a company, the campaign influenced Patagonia’s impact on water and brought awareness to one simple fact: the more water people use, the less there is for everything else.

The Cleanest Line highlights some successes in the campaign and the environmental groups Patagonia worked with on each of these issues.

U.S. Forest Service set to decide on fracking in George Washington National Forest

George Washington National Forest is more than just one of the largest expanses of pristine land in the East. It’s the cradle of the Shenandoah, James and Potomac rivers.

By the end of the month, the U.S. Forest Service is expected to decide whether to ban or allow the controversial method of drilling called hydraulic fracturing under the forest’s new, 15-year management plan.

Don't Let the Chattahoochee Run Dry

The Chattahoochee River, that flows through Atlanta, recently made the list of America’s Most Endangered Rivers®. Patagonia is helping shine a national spotlight on two boondoggle dam/reservoir proposals that are far too expensive and would harm clean water supplies, recreation, an outstanding trout fishery and wildlife habitat.

Take action and urge the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to deny permits for these dams and reservoirs.

Putting Water Back

Patagonia recently bought Water Restoration Certificates to restore eight million gallons of water for the Middle Deschutes River to offset its own domestic water consumption.
