NEW Scientific Anglers Tippet Spool

The propeller heads at SA have redesigned their tippet spools.

Scientific Anglers is pleased to announce it's redesigned tippet spool and updated label graphics. The new spool features an independent, free wheeling hub that allows the tippet spool to spin freely when joined together. The hub can be retracted to become flush with the spool body when used alone, or with other tippet spools on the market. Each of the spools are color coded to correspond to the tippet material type. Green for freshwater nylon, blue for saltwater hard mono, and orange for fluorocarbon. The spools are also molded with UV inhibitors to help protect the tippet from degenerating UV rays. Built into the spool rim is a razor to cut the material right where you want it. The tippet material is managed by a color coded tippet retainer band that also has the size of the material printed on it.

If that isn't enough,

We have upped the ante at Scientific Anglers by giving you more of our award winning material than the competition. Each spool will include 30 meters of material which is approximately 9% more than our competitors.

The Fly Shop plans fly-fishing learning center at Steiner Lake

Mike Michalak, owner of The Fly Shop in Redding, plans to open a fly-fishing learning center at Steiner Lake off Clear Creek Road in Redding.  The plan is to offer beginning to advanced classes on casting techniques and fly-tying, a 700-square-foot classroom is being built next to the lake. Fishing day camps for children could begin in summer of 2013, Michalak said. He wants to encourage children "to get away from computers and Game Boys and Wiis and be outside in a safe environment."

FreeFly Apparel

Small fly fishing inspired apparel brands are becoming almost as ubiquitous as the digital fly fishing magazine. What sets Free Fly apart is their use of bamboo based fabric, some unique designs, and most notably, their partnership with a non-profit that installs sustainable water treatment systems in countries in desperate need.

Free Fly has partnered with Charleston, SC-based Water Missions International® with the mission of bringing safe drinking water to those who need it most. Water Missions installs clean water treatment systems in locations with little or no access to clean drinking water.

Free Fly has already provided the resources necessary to give over 250 people clean drinking water for the rest of their lives.

I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans

Should be a fair amount of buzz coming out of this weeks IFTD show.

MidCurrent and Angling Trade have partnered up and will be reporting what's new from the show, including a full rundown on the new product showcase.

Fly Rod and Reel will be offering live coverage from the show floor.

The Drake Video Awards will take place the first night of the show so those clips should be popping up soon and and the Iron Fly Competition returns for another year.

Stand by for our view from the show floor and beyond, we're exploring the bayou today with Patagonia Fly Fishing Ambassador Bryan Carter.
