Small fly fishing community emerging around Pierre and Fort Pierre

Every year tens of thousands of fly fishermen flock to the Missouri River. All of them are hoping to catch trout out of the legendary river’s cold, clear water. Of course that’s in Montana where the river is made up almost entirely of glacier and snow melt.

Around Pierre and Fort Pierre there’s a slightly different character to the Mighty Mo.

Is there something fishy 
with the Fryingpan?

It appears a combination of low flows, anchor ice and rock snot have caused a measurable decline in hatch occurrences on the Fryingpan resulting in lower catch rates. As a result the Roaring Fork Conservancy will conduct the first major assessment of the Fryingpan in more than a decade.
