Illegal pot grows spoil North Coast

Illegal grows are having a significant impact on the environment and wild fish.

Cal Trout is supporting Assemblymen Jim Wood’s bill, AB 243 that addresses the environmental problems created by illegal marijuana farms.

The best thing that could happen would be for California to fully legalize cannabis which would put the illegal grows out of business.

Take Action: The Smith River Needs Your Help

Photo:PGHolbrook

A very important message from Cal Trout.

CalTrout let you know earlier this year about a nickel mine being proposed in the headwaters of the Smith River in Oregon.  We published an op-ed in May in the San Francisco Chronicle highlighting the threat.

We have now learned of the submission of a water license by the mining company to the Oregon Water Resources Department to extract water from a tributary of the North Fork Smith River.

California’s most pristine river needs your voice now!   The Public comment period for this 5-year limited water license is open from June 24 until July 8, 2014.

Click here for the public comment section for the project or email the Oregon Water Resources Director at Director@wrd.state.or.us or phone at 503-986-0900.

Southern California Steelhead: Against All Odds-Trailer

Southern California Steelhead: Against All Odds is a documentary about one of the California's most magnificent and endangered species of native fish. Once numbering in the tens of thousands, these resilient fish are now on the brink of extinction. Dams, development, water extraction, pollution and climate change have all take their toll. However, these fish are not doomed to extinction and a small number of people can make a big difference in helping recover this iconic species.

Please visit CalTrout.org for more information on what CalTrout and it's partners are doing to help recover these beautiful fish.
