The load would be 255 feet long and 21 feet wide
One of the fears of those opposed to the massive megaload shipments on Highway 12 was that it would create a permanent industrial transportation route through a National Forest and Wild and Scenic corridor. Thanks to a judges ruling, the Forest Service can no longer sit idly by while the Idaho Department of Transportation green lights megaload permits.
The U.S. Forest Service has told the Idaho Department of Transportation it can't support an application for a massive shipment to move on U.S. Highway 12 across northern Idaho and into Montana.
The agency will review any load that requires traffic to be fully stopped, can't complete the route in 12 hours, or that requires physical modification of the roadway or nearby vegetation.
The Omega Morgan load hits all three categories.
