There is 8 percent hooking mortality rate for striped bass caught and released by recreational anglers in the marine environment

John Tiedemann & Andy Danylchuk cover the proper care and handling of striped bass in the latest issue of On the Water  Given the vast amount of striped bass that are released every year (NY anglers released close to 1.5 million in 2011) proper handling is a critical component of the striped bass conservation effort.

Spot on with this write-up, I truly think this website needs far more consideration. I’ll probably be once more to read far more, thanks for that info.

the sad thing is only a small percentage of the people i see fishing in boston harbor treat fish properly. lucky enough to spend 7 days a week may thru december on the water with fishing and lobstering. I see more people throwing striped bass thru the air back into the water than releasing them properly. No matter how much I try and tell new people to the fishery the proper way to handle the fish, their old habits die hard, while bass die easy. sad
