Hey Chum,
I was fishing for black rockfish across Shellikof Straight from Kodiak island with my 6wt sage one. I threw a few casts and caught some palm sized black rockfish. A swell pushed the boat too close to the bank so I left my line in the water and started the motor to pull away, as soon as I put the motor in gear I felt a hard yank and turned back to see a massive halibut where my fly should have been. Two and a half hours later I had it on the beach, and shortly after that I ate her cheeks and washed it down with some Rainier. Probably be one of my most interesting fly rod fish of my life!!

Never happen again... absolute awesomeness. The Rainier is a nice finishing touch.
Thats a heck of a fish... even for a Sage one.... good job!
Bad Ass!
On the 6! That is sick!!! Well Done!
Thanks posting this Chum!! That was day one of an eleven day stint watching the lodges halibut boat. Broke that 6wt the next day on an 8lb rockfish, and got it all on film. I work for rapids camp in king salmon. The season is done for us now. Sitting in the Anchorage airport, out of copenhagen, hungover and hazy from last night. B.C. steelhead, here i come.
