Yellowstone cutthroat returned to Clarks Fork system

The flatbed truck with a green aquatics tank arrived at the trailhead at 9 a.m., carrying 900 genetically pure Yellowstone cutthroat trout.

Bucket by bucket, technicians with Wyoming Game and Fish carried the trout to the banks of Dead Indian Creek, a fast-running tributary that feeds the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River.

Monday"s release marks an ongoing effort by state biologists to restore Yellowstone cutthroat to native waters across the greater Yellowstone ecosystem, including Dead Indian Creek.

According to the biologists “This stocking will help provide immediate angler opportunities.”

What does "genetically pure" mean? Genetically identical sounds more appropriate here. Another future monoculture system. Why can't managers figure that these populations are resilient only because they are wild and genetically diverse. The best management strategy to bring them back for the long term is like mutual funds - you invest in many different genetics, and under various environmental conditions some are bound to be more successful than others.. You never hedge your bets on one stock, it's just as risky in biology as it is in the stock market. This is a management failure, not a success - turning the system into a life support fishery - these have been diluting and diminishing wild returns in analogous systems for years. If you cut out fishing pressure and get out of the fishes way, they will return. We shouldn't be managing fish, we should be managing ourselves.
