10 tons of illegally caught Stripers in Chesapeake Bay
Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 12:01AM
This happened back in February.
The thieves employed submerged gill nets, which are approved for taking strippers, but only when properly tended, used on defined dates, and in compliance with catch limits. In this case, however, the poachers caught 20,000 pounds against a daily legal quota of 300 pounds!
The Weekend Sportfisherman has all the gory details along with photos.

These guys should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Plus castrated.
I live on the bay and have seen a drastic decrease in strippers over the years. think about how many other illegal poachers are out there that haven't been caught. Let's just say the MD DNR isn't exactly staffed to uncover all of these operations.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for RAPING natural resources like this. Nothing infuriates me like lying, stealing and POACHING ( which basically consists of lying and stealing.) Whoever did this should spend about 40 years in prison. They not only RAPE the resource, but steal from all of us - other commercial fishermen and sportfishermen. How utterly disgusting.
old school beat down would be a start. Post their faces.... I want to see these mother fuc%ers.
Let the market regulate itself...oh wait, nevermind, that is a bullshit idea.
Queequeg - awesome post.
since when can you use gill nets to take strippers ? (however, they themselves have sometimes been know to use fishnets)
I know fisherman are not the brightest people in the American population. However, if you are really concerned about "strippers" then you should go the nearest strip joint and complain there. The girls love the attention. However, if your concerned about "stripers" also known as "rock fish" in Maryland, then I completely agree with you. If the lilberals think they can put these guys on probation and rehabilitate them, once again they will be wrong. They will be out on the bay doing it again. And why not, they got away with it the first time.
