I am shocked that that atlantic is winning...... He must have a serious following

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMark Bove

You guys should send shirts to all the monthly winners... "The people voted... I have a slab."

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMatt

You guys should always post the pictures as a reminder for every month in the body of the post. Just a thought.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKara

Yeah i gree - i really mean no disrespect at all, it is a very nice fish better than most I have caught, but in size or beauty I don't see how it is superior to any of the other 3. Is it the PUMA headband? Did he send a mass email asking people to vote? I don't get it.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFish' Terp

"I don't get it"..........Catching an Atlantic Salmon on a fly is not like throwing beads to Rainbows or targetting starving Browns in the Winter!! It takes patience, persistance and a love of the sport! Atlantics are the true sportfish!!

All Hail the Atlantic Salmon!!!

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAtlantic Salmon 4 Life!

Its hard to believe that even on a fishing website you get some real redneck comments. It truly demonstrates who is passionate about the sport and who is not. Dec Atlantic gets a lot of votes because people in the Atlantic area respect the sport, the resource and the salmon.. a spieces that is natural, under respected and limited in numbers. Its not often a fish of that size is pulled from a small river long enough for a picture. Congrats to Dec Atlantic for show casing a true trophy. For those who want to disrespect any fishermen then spend your time in a msn chat room.
Go Atlantic.

ummm...uhhh....duhhh...maybe cause it's a HUGE ATLANTIC salmon..HELLO................

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRobbie Hiltz

I don't wanna vote for any of those gomers. Gerrard was flossed, steelie was gravel raped, brown guy is stoned out of his tree and trying to make a 16" fish look like 6 lbs and atlantic guy gave his fish herpes. Should have been the damn lemon shark. Now that was worthy.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commentershitty year

Anyone who has ever hooked an Atlantic Salmon knows why the Dec Atlantic should win this contest!! They are the King of Sport Fish...beauty of a fish Matt

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLaHave's Salmon Flies

whats wrong with that flosser dudes sunglasses? The atlantic is black as a boot, show me a chromer salar in a photo that isn't taken at night and it has my vote no doubt. Gonna have to give the nod to Chou doggies humongous wild buck. that beast is big enough to eat a small dog

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterapocalypse

glad to see comments from "shitty year" representing the under educated overly rednecked. Its unfortunate great sites like this gets that kind of user. To all the 4 finalist nice work!

Lahave Salmon Flies said it best .. King of the Sport Fish.
Go Atlantic!
Hook an Atlantic and get hooked for life!!

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterrespectful fishermen

Hey Shitty year. Herpes??? what are you talking about.? Maybe thats why your having a shitty year because you got herpes and trying to blame it on everyone but yourself.

And respectfulfisherman you are 100% right about what you said. Its not everyday you hook on to one that size.
Yes indeed it is the king of all sport fish.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkyper

Herpies ? Those marks are caused by sealice .
And to catch a wild fish fresh out of the sea in a freash water river on a fly full of piss , and to get your picture with it is nothing short of spectackular . Awesome fish from the Maritimes . Truly a fish of a thousand cast .

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGary

if you think the south is full of inbreeds you should meet a maritimer. all buddy had to do is tell his brother to vote and pass the message on to all of his sibling and before you know it, matts wife votes i mean sister i mean mother oh whatever you get the point , the shark should have won. or he is cheating the last set of voting had 400 more votes on the second half of the year some of the fish had more votes but a lower percentage then the two winners on the top.check yourself chum.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermikka

Hey "respectful fisherman" - I was asking a sincere question. The first thing I said was that I mean no disrespect at all, so don't get on me like I'm dissing his fish. Also, just because I have never fished for Atlantic Salmon, how does this make me a redneck? I've lived in a major US Eastern city my entire life, am well educated, an active member of several conservation groups and generally respectful of both the resource and other people, including fishermen. Just because I haven't had the pleasure to fish for Atlantic Salmon yet and I ask an honest question about it doesn't make me a redneck. If you were really a "respectful fisherman" you wouldn't jump to such conclusions and show your ignorance with such unwarranted and ironically disrespectful comments.

January 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterFish'n Terp

Shitty year holds an MSc and voted for Obama. Fail. All those fish suck. Two rainbows, a brown and an atlantic. Species diversity fail. Go lemon shark!

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered Commentershitty year

Hey Mikka,

I just checked out your family tree online and it actually was a wreath!!...go figure!
PS. Jeff Foxsworthy call and wants his cd back! .....better yet, lend it to Fish'n Terp!

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMickey Finn

To Fish'n Terp ......sincere and honest comments eh... what a joke!! First of all no one called you a redneck and stated you had no education. It's rather hilarious you assumed you met the criteria. So where does comments like this stand in your dictionary of sincerity? .........."Is it the PUMA headband? Did he send a mass email asking people to vote? ...This is suppose to be a fun competition and about show casing some awesome fish. For your sake I hope you have the chance some day to hook an Atlantic Salmon so you can focus on the experience as opposed to a fishermens wardrobe.. in your words " a puma headband".......don't bite off more then you can chew. Thats what a Rainbow trout does on Powerbait.

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered Commenter"respectful fisherman"

You don't get Chromers in the fall , only early in the summer . All fall fish are dark such as Mattys .

BTW Milkka mom called .... our sister ... I mean Our granny and wants to know if you are gonna be home this Christmas . She wants her panties back .

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGary

I find it kinda funny that people are all jacked up about that Atlantic... The fish really is not anything special. Its dark and something that is very common. That rainbow trout is a one in a billion fish, and so is the steelhead. I mean how many mid twenty pound rainbow trout or steelhead are there? Especially wild fish? Props to everyone but seriously that fish is a boot and the brown is spawned out...

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWestside

From a angler who has caught several Atlantics from the Margaree River, NS (assuming thats where the salmon came from) I give him full credit! To swing an unweighted fly to a fish that has no need to feed is a feat that only the most patient and dedicated angler can accomplish! Fishing the Margaree is not like fishing the Mirimachi in the spring time . A 40+ inch salmon is a slab no matter where you go! Great job Matt! maybe I'll run into you on the river, I'm there in oct. and love fishing ethridge, Big McDaniel, the crib, red bank, seal, ross bridge, snag and the 40 sum other pools on the river! I'll be looking for the puma head band!

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSalmon Police

"I find it kinda funny that people are all jacked up about that Atlantic... The fish really is not anything special. Its dark and something that is very common. .......Props to everyone but seriously that fish is a boot ......"

Huh??nothing special??Very common?WTF?Please,do tell, just exactly how many 40"+ Atlantics have you caught Mr. Nothing Special?Very common?hmmm...oddly enough,"very common" 40 inch brights have managed to elude me for almost 20 years of flyfishing for Atlantics....hell I haven't even caught a 40" kelt when they are "easy" to catch:rolleyes:.
A boot??Listen bud,a spawned out, overwintered, slinky old kelt Atlantic aint even a boot, never mind a fresh 40" October Margaree slab....there's a reason why the pic is dark....they don't come to hand in 15 seconds like a skanky old bass does.Come fish for the King of gamefish sometime, put in your thousand casts for a 5lb grilse that will lb for lb outrun, outjump, and simply outperform ANY freshwater fish on the planet, and maybe then you'll be somewhat qualified to comment.Sorry dude, but steelies are only a close second at best, and the fighting ability of browns doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence...ne...paragraph as salmo salar, the leaper.

Now you just run along and practice flyfishing some more and come back when you know what you're talking about, cuz until you've landed an atlantic or three, you don't know jack.

January 28, 2011 | Unregistered Commentergreenghost

I get the whole attraction about Atlantics. I really do. But really???

Its gotta be one of those O. mykiss in my opinion. The Atlantic is cool, but definitely not Slab of the year.
