Just for the record there is no other group as tight knit and dedicated as that of the Atlantic Salmon anglers. To catch a fish that size on public water where you cast your turn through the pool and sit and wait on a bankl or bench for the next anglers to pass over the fish before you cast again is a pure test of passion and patience. There is a brotherhood between these anglers from teaching each other to tie the flies, help anglers choose the proper flies right down to pointing out where the fish are holding it is something I have never experienced trout fishing. No offence to the others as they are fine fish and we have big browns and rainbows here as well but the Atlantic is something that gets in your blood but they truly can be the fish of a thousand casts... Congrats Matt

sorry guys but when the three other fish up there are all angled to the camera or pushed out closer for a bigger look , mean while mr dort with his salar hugged tight to his chest like a true flyfisherman that is not only proud of himself for catchin the fish of 1000 casts but also proud of the fish an not having to make it look bigger for pride, you west coasters an non maritimers that are raggin on the fish for not being a slab gfy..... come catch one like mentioned above , get your little lady finger beat off the reel handle cause you didnt expect the run an didnt get your steel head hands out of the way in time.... then land it an tell us how ya feel untill then GFY...

Well they are all great fish and it was a tough call but I voted for the Atlantic. Never caught one myself but 30 years ago I caught an 18lb Chinook at a river mouth and still havent recovered from the experience.

Yeah, seriously do you people realize that fish is a TROUT!!??? that thing is bigger than the salmon for god sakes. Its tottlaly unheard of. If i ever hooked a trout that big i would be shittin down my leg, a Salmon like the atlantic, while still epic is not the same at all. Just look at the mass on the other two fish. That steelhead is solid, but that gerrard is UN believable.

I didn't know anyone was left in the maritimes. I guess it's pretty easy to get in some fishing time when you don't have a job and live on unemployment. Do they still eat potatoes and club seals? I seen perfect storm. Half the population of imbreads died-and i guess cousins couldn't breed anymore and we had to resort to brothers and sisters. Weak slab chum. Weak slab.

guys that is a f*cking rainbow trout! landlocked! not of the sea! that thing is more than massive! we should all be seeking shelter instead of voting because that thing is a monster! Gerrard for SOTY!

First, I'd like to say thanks to the admin of Moldy Bait fishing website for not posting my last comment, you guys are class acts here, you let derogatory comments be posted by some ignorrant rednecks about maritimers, and you have run the most corrupt voting since the Florida election. Really classy place you have here, Intelligent website, and intelligent posters cannot be found here....oh yeah, all you maritime haters, yo momma says hi from the lobster wharf.....

This is factually reaking hilarious. Every post from all sides calls everyone else disrespectful, then says something to insult all other groups. Fish species, georgraphic location, cultural upbringing - all is fair game. Hilarous - there's nothing like fishing to bring us all together! Group hug everybody!

I don't have a horse in the race, but at least one thing can say about this SOTY is that there is some serious debate going on, so I guess this contest was pretty decent, cause it stirred up some real controversy!

FishingTwirp, quote from you
"Yeah i gree - i really mean no disrespect at all, it is a very nice fish better than most I have caught, but in size or beauty I don't see how it is superior to any of the other 3. Is it the PUMA headband? Did he send a mass email asking people to vote? I don't get it.

The last words "i don't get it" say it all. Yeah, you can look at the fish, yeah you can form an opinion for yourself, so just stfu and cast your vote, then keep your girlie, middle of the road attitude and suggestions to yourself. You seem very judgemental and have yourself on a pedistal of some sort, with your "is it the Puma Headband" comment, and "Get all his buddies to vote for him" comment, seems to me you do indeed mean some disrespect, you are no different than the ones you condemn for slanderous speech now are you? Hipocrite, just go back to staying quiet, instead of telling us your education, and volunteer conservation efforts, or where you lived and what you have or haven't fished for, no one cares what you think anyway, by your own words, you know nothing about catching an Atlantic salmon, if you did, then you wouldn't need to require "getting it", 'cause you would.......vote and stfu!
