Take Action - Condit Dam removal faces potential delay

Condit Dam, which has blocked the White Salmon River since 1913, was originally supposed to be removed in 2006, according to the terms of a settlement agreement between dam owner PacifiCorp, environmental groups, government agencies and the Yakama Nation.

Now, in a new filing, PacifiCorp suggests that removing the 125-foot-high dam may be delayed once again.

The Portland-based utility indicated in a new legal filing that a slew of new requirements by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission may not leave enough time to breach the dam in October of this year.

Here is a sample letter to send to FERC @ customer@ferc.gov

To FERC officials,

I am disgusted that my tax dollars are paying folks at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to again delay the approved and celebrated removal of Condit Dam on the White Salmon River. Stop obstructing this project and actively help ensure that the dam is removed, as scheduled, in 2011!

Thanks

YES! I agree. Get it out already. It seems on the brink of finality every time they make a decision and inevitably, something comes up. What more can we, and the governing agencies, do to say that it needs to come out now. I still have my fingers crossed for 2011. We'll see. Thanks for spreading the word.
