Hopefully Ross reels remain American made.
My thoughts exactly! Stay in the States!
This saddens me; a once great company that's now going to be chewed up, swallowed, and spit out by a conglomerate giant. It' almost a 100% guarantee that quality will slide, craftsmanship will become a thing of the past, and the reels will no longer be what they are today.
A perfect fit for Ross to be acquired by a plastic company. That is the direction those reels have been going for a while. Plenty of great American reel companies out there not owned by Madoff or Post It Notes. Ross watered down their good reels with too many poorly constructed price point reels. Too bad, next.
I guarantee you, those frigging reels are soon gonna be made in China - You watch. Fuck 3M! Get what you can, now....................
That's some major sad news. Too many jobs and companies are heading overseas just to save a f*cking buck or two. I had a feeling they would go that direction when they started the "Worldwide" series of cheap rods and reels. Hang on to your old Gunnisons and Cimmarons because Ross is going under.
Look at what Ross had to do with Ross Worldwide - lower their price point. I love Ross reels, but they are expensive and the fly fishing market has started trending to lower priced offerings (TFO, Worldwide as examples). Heck, even sage has offered sub priced rods.
I am not a huge fan of SA gear, but hopefully Ross can stay self contained and this will help them stay afloat and continue to make great reels. Their big game reels are excellent. I can't afford Tibor, so the Momentum is the next best thing.
There goes the neighborhood! I think I will hold on to my 'American-made' Evos for as long as I can!
