Fishing guides propose to start Bahamian Flyfishing Federation (BFF)
Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 3:00AM
Several bonefish guides from the islands of Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama and New Providence have initiated a proposal to start a Bahamian Flyfishing Federation (BFF).
The public is invited to participate in the formation of the Bahamian Flyfishing Federation, which will happen at the upcoming Bahamas Bonefish Conference October 4th and 5th, 2010 at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort. This conference is being sponsored by the Bahamian Flats Fishing Alliance (a partnership between the Fisheries Conservation Foundation, Bahamas National Trust and Bonefish & Tarpon Trust.)

Have to figure out how to attend the Bahamas Bonefish Conference.

Sounds like a small step towards private flats. I'm not against conservation, but when guides start talking about federations, it makes me worry.
Yup - Looks like the guides are getting together to eliminate DIY fishing in the Bahamas. I would hope they consider that with the economy the way it is, there are many "unbooked" lodges and guides in the Bahamas and that alienating fisherman is not what they need to do at this point. I am all for only allowing Bahamian guides and boats to guide in Bahamian waters and to protect the environment/fish. From what I have heard from some guides in the Islands, getting rid of DIY is a priority. The good news is that we live in a free enterprise society and if they organize a "controlled" fishing situation in the Bahamas, we can go elsewhere.
