Biggest waste of money in the world? Sharkskin flylines.
$100 for a "floating" line that sinks right to the bottom. On the plus side, since you'll never actually hook a fish one--because you'll spend all your time trying to untangle it from random coral, weeds, sticks and rocks ON THE BOTTOM--you'll never have to experience the extremely painful sensation of having your finger cut down to the joint when a fish rockets off.
Save your money and buy a nice bottle of scotch and a cheap line from L.L. Bean or somewhere.
