"If these hatchery fish are so damaging then why are so many being put out into the rivers anyway?"
Great question... unfortunately the author was too busy talking about all kinds of hippie nonsense to ever try to answer it.
The reason, for anyone who cares enough to see through the BS, is that hatchery fish, while terrible for the river and ecosystem, are great for the wallets of government agencies and politicians, and provide an easy, "wool over the eyes", solution to a very real and complex problem of overfishing, habitat destruction, and "resource development" that our greed has created.
Don't buy the hype... Keep bonking those drones!
You may piss off a few hippies, PETA types, and apparently at least one martial arts instructor, but you will be doing a huge favor to the river, the fish born in it, and the fish your grandchildren may have a prayer of catching if we shut down the fish farms.
And seriously, its a fish! A beautiful, amazing, and valuable one... definitely... but I don't think it has any more "life force" or inherent spiritual value than that ant you stepped on this morning.
