Native Hawaiians called the fish Maku'u or exploding intestines

A description of walu from the Honolulu Fish Company.

Walu has a rich, buttery flavor that is luscious cooked and a delicacy raw. This exotic sashimi grade fish is also known as "white tuna" because of its rich oil content and tuna like texture. Density and high moisture retention make this a versatile fish to prepare and a valuable commodity raw. Its paper white color marks up especially well on the grill.

Sounds delicious! Except they left out the exploding intestines and ruined underpants part.

State Representative James Tokioka did some research and drafted a bill that prohibits catching, selling or even possessing walu in Hawaii.

The equivalent of banning cheese because some people are lactose intolerant.

It would be equivalent of banning cheese if cheese gave you projectile diarrhea because it contained wax esters. That is some crazy shit!

The popularity of walu is skyrocketing throughout the US. Nicknames proves its popularity; butterfish, oilfish, white tuna, etc. Escolar's oil structure has a more complex oil structure than the stomach understands. Sort'a like eating an entire jar of macademia nuts. 6 oz or less of this 'froie gras of the sea' (thur goes another nickname) and those 60 years or younger are good. For those over 70 there is always depends undergarments.

I have a bit of a sensitive stomach and Escolar has never bothered me. Most sushi joints recommend that you don't eat too much.

Never had a problem with it sooooo SUCKIT. You old bastards.

Walu is the best fish I ever ate. I have a very sensitive system and it never gave me problems. I know of only one person that had a problem but he ate about a pound of it. I think anyone would have a problem if they ate a pound of anything. Legislators should leave fish selling to fish mongers and concentrate on fixing this damm economy or save our sports or clean up Waikiki or find a home for the homeless. Leave this fish alone!
