When art imitates life
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 12:02AM
Artist Susan Luckey Higdon first saw this Tim Pask photo at one of Dylan Tomine's steelhead readings.
Susan contacted Tim and asked if she could paint the image and Tim agreed and then proceeded to forget about it. Well Susan finished the painting which is now hanging in her gallery in Bend.

The painting is 36" x 36" canvas. I just wish I had it hanging in my house. Unlike a lot of artists I think Susan does a great job not only on the subject, but the edges seem alive to me as well. Great talent for sure.
SICK! I wonder if she is going to do print of this painting.
When Susan approached me after the Bend reading, I put her in touch with Tim and (like Tim) pretty much forgot about it. Little did I know what was happening in her studio. When I saw the painting, I was blown away. She certainly captured the spirit of the photo and more. Definitely a little magic in this painting. Beautiful.
Nice work, Susan! It's gorgeous.

Stunning photo and painting!
I would be interested in buying print as well! Wonderful!
Gorgeous painting. I agree, Susan does create a little magic in this image! The colors look so iridescent and that's hard to capture with pastel or paint. I love the light reflections in the water.
Amazing!!!
