US expands laws protecting Atlantic salmon
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 12:00AM
The federal government dramatically extended protection yesterday for the imperiled wild Atlantic salmon in Maine, declaring that the few remaining sportfish in the Penobscot, Kennebec, and Androscoggin rivers and their tributaries are endangered.
Maine officials are not pleased.

now if only they could figure that out about the wild fish here in the north west .It is time they learnewd to protect the spawning beds and create habitate for the fish ,not build fish hatcheries !
i think this is a definite step in the right direction......of course these industrial big wigs get their panties in a twist because they are going to have to under go an "arduous environmental review" . I'm anxious to see how challenges to the listing are dealt with.
i wonder if TU and LL Bean will get involved?
stupid. how can a hatchery sustained population of fish be called endangered?
