I guess English Pete got lucky: World Record Steelhead?

No judgment here - just reporting the news...
One week after we fished with buddy Jim Kerr, he drifted down the Hoh only to come upon English Pete and this sight. It's a story that has generated all kinds of emotion and clamor in our neck of the woods, and until now we'd not seen a picture. We stumbled upon it on The Big Pull. Big pull indeed. Rumor has it the IGFA is involved. It's positioned to be the new world record steelhead on the fly.

It was like being at a wake, obviously no one could believe he killed it. If we had gotten there 20 min sooner I am sure we could have talked him into putting it back.
A crowd gathered around the fish pretty fast and we all just stood there, no one really talked, it was erie.
I have alot more to say about this one but it will have to keep until my season wraps up

Taken from the gene pool so English Pete can brag about bagging the worlds biggest steelhead. I guess it makes him the worlds greatest steelhead angler and he has proven it by killing the worlds biggest wild steelhead.
For the record there has been hundreds of larger steelhead caught and released unharmed by anglers who apparently are not the worlds best steelhead anglers. The 40 pounder caught on the Kispiox comes to mind... With any luck that fish will be spawning soon and perhaps his offspring will show up someday.
Greed kills. I am sure he told everyone it was a bleeder or some other bullshit story.
