Deep fried and alive

In order to keep the carp alive chefs cook its body but wrap its head in a wet cloth to keep it breathing, before covering it in sauce and serving in on a plate.

PETA is not amused.

I'd like to rap those bitches up and dunk them in my new giant size turkey fryer. Mother fuckers!!!

I eat meat (a lot). I hunt. I hate PETA.

But this is cruel and pointless. What could possibly be the benefit of this?

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBugslinger

I agree with Bugslinger. I eat meat, I hunt, and I hate PETA, but this is hard to watch...

In certain Asian cultures it is believed that the more an animal suffers before death the better quality and more nourishing the food. I believe some Japanese ethnic groups beleive this as well as some from China.

I was at onetime interested and involved in the importation and captive breeding of exotic reptiles. Of those collected from the wild for export, 99% go to Asian food markets. Chinease business men will pay $$$ for a rare delicacy to impress a client or for personal esteem.

I don't think there is anything wrong with causing animals pain as they are prepared for consumption, but this video is just gratuitous.

I can think of a number of backward cultural issues from that part of the world, i.e. use of animals by herbalists etc. I am sure we've all heard of using rhino horns and bear gallbladders to cure everything from Aids to a headache.

I'm a carnivore, hunter, fisherman and I own several guns. But I also have ethics, Moldy Chum just lost it's place in my "favorites" due to this unnecessarily ill post.

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRandal C.

Wonder what the reaction would be if that was a steelhead. Disgusting.

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKris

I agree with all the above. There isn't much to add to what has been posted. But I think Moldy Chum should make some sort of disclaimer. The way it's just set ting there makes it look as if Moldy Chum is passively endorsing this shit. Just because it's got a fish in it doesn't make it Chum worthy.

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMikeonthegunpowder

Who gives a shit, ya kinda gross and I am also opposed to this form of cuisine, but should MoldyChum put a disclaimer up every Friday above the Friday Pin Up so that children don't look at some T & A.

Disturbing!

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterloopyflycaster

Probably caught it with a live rattlesnake. No difference imo causing suffering for no good reason.

And WOWI "I don't think there is anything wrong with causing animals pain as they are prepared for consumption,"

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterwhatawanker

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterflyfishingchef

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertroutsnob

November 24, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjerome

Whatawanker,

Do you they provide anesthesia for cows when they are slaughtered? Lobsters when they are boiled alive? Or a qauil before you shoot it? Pain is part of the game if your going to eat other creatures, which is fine. But what we have in the video is that pain, and the realities of being in the food chain turned into a curiosity, with its novel cruelty front and center.

Just to clarify my point.

they should east Asian Carp - Great Lakes Problem Averted -

November 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMattSteelhead

I hardly think Moldy Chum is endorsing this - they're just letting us know what's going on out there. It's the first I've ever heard of this practice.

November 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJeffrey Prest

Jonathan, politely, fuck off. That's the third shit-head comment I've seen from you in the last six minutes.

November 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKris

That is just wrong.

November 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlogan

PETA is not amused and neither are MOST of your readers! I agree this has nothing to do with fly fishing and is SICK. You guys need to use a little better judgment!

November 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFrancis

Jeffrey said it best - just shedding light on a situation. Nothing more and nothing less.

November 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterChum

JUST PLAIN WRONG.
And the Chinese are the screwed up idiots that are making all the shit we buy!
