What Does the Future Hold for the Teton Watershed?
A great post from The Cleanest Line that illustrates how far we've come protecting the Teton River, what's at stake if we don't continue to protect this habitat, and how you can further help the cause.
Patagonia owners Yvon and Malinda Chouinard joined Friends of the Teton River this summer on a trip down a wild stretch of the Idaho waterway. Their trip commemorated a float the Chouinards had taken down the same stretch of river 35 years ago, before construction of the notorious Teton Dam. Unfortunately, the trip was not a celebratory one - Friends of the Teton River's Amy Verbeten explains:

A River Runs Through My Acid Trip
Cano Cristales has been referred to as the "river of five colors", "the river that ran away to paradise," and "the most beautiful river in the world." It is indeed a unique biological wonder. For most of the year, the Cano Cristales is indistinguishable from any other river, with a bed of rocks covered in dull green mosses and a cool dark blue current. However for a short period each year the river blossoms in a rainbow of colors.
During Colombia's wet season, the water flows fast and deep, obscuring the bottom of the river and denying the mosses and algae that call the river home the sun that they need. And during the dry season there is not enough water to support the dazzling array of life in the river.
But during a brief span between the wet and dry seasons, when the water level is just right, the many varieties of algae and moss bloom in a dazzling display of colors. Blotches of amarillo, blue, green, black, and red--and a thousand shades in between--coat the river.

Big River Man - Martin Strel aka The Fish Man
Martin Strel is not an athlete. He is a fifty-plus, big bellied Slovenian man who drives whilst drunk and eats horse burgers. He's also an endurance swimmer, conquering the worlds largest rivers, the Mississippi, the Danube and the Yangtze to draw attention to environmental issues.
The soon to be released documentary Big River Man chronicles Strel's 66 day swim up the entire Amazon.
