Shoulda Been Here Yesterday
Today while hiking out on the Brewster Flats to fish the mouth of my favorite estuary creek, I stopped to talk with a couple of guys working the oyster farm.
Boy you shoulda been here yesterday. Been working this spot for 9 years and have never seen so many fish in here, there were thousands, including a ton of small 4-5 pound tuna. Watched a 30 inch bluefish take a bite outta one of those little tuna, there was blood in the water, my girlfriend was freaking out, I told her not to worry about it.
False albacore? Bonito? In the estuary creek? This could be a good day.
Headed off hoping to see a repeat performance and a few minutes later see some fish pushing some bait. As soon as I make my first cast a Brittany Pointer comes streaking out of nowhere, jumps straight into the creek and chases my pod of fish off. A gal calls out, "come here Blondie," and makes here way over to where I'm fishing. I say to her, "Blondie sure is one hell of a fish dog." She replies, "not really, she's never chased fish in her life but like a bear chasing salmon she caught three small tuna right here yesterday. Now all she wants to do is chase fish."
Yup, shoulda been here yesterday.
