Many experts say that storm-water, the toxic mix of dirt and contaminants that rain picks up as it flows across city streets, has never been sufficiently regulated under the Clean Water Act. And as the population of the Seattle area has boomed, storm-water has become the number one source of toxins in the Puget Sound.

A recent study provides strong evidence of substantial migration interference and increased mortality risk associated with the Hood Canal Floating Bridge, and may partially explain low early marine survival rates observed in Hood Canal steelhead populations.

June Slab of the Month Entry: S. River Steelhead

Chum local Terry Hamilton plucked one from what is becoming a pretty strong early season run up here in the PNW. Oh, and this was Terry's first steelhead.  Ever.

Lookin like it's time to do a local field trip.

Sept Slab of the Month Entry: Puget Sound Cutthroat

For those who have experienced it, fishing for cutthroat in Puget Sound rarely delivers in this fashion. 

This freak of nature was caught last week by an angler from Bend, OR while on a trip with chum brothers Emerald Water Anglers.  Taping wasn't conducted, but the eyeball indicates this fish inched its way well into the 20's.
