Northern Dynasty Seeking New Business Partner

Northern Dynasty, the company that owns the proposed Pebble Mine, is bolstering its financing as it looks for a new partner.

Good luck finding a new partner. Two of the world's largest mining conglomerates, Rio Tinto and Anglo American, have already bailed on the project and the EPA is poised to shut down the project for good.

Northern Dynasty accepts more mining claims near Pebble

In May, an agreement was finalized transferring 199 state mining claims on the Big Chunk "Super Project" site from Liberty Star Uranium & Metals to Northern Dynasty, the sole owner of the Pebble Mine project north of Iliamna.

Along with 95 mineral claims transferred in 2010, Northern Dynasty now owns 294 claims on the Big Chunk copper and gold deposit, which lies a few miles north of Pebble.

Rio Tinto Pulls Out

Strong financials? 

Back in December global mining giant Rio Tinto said it was reviewing its investment in the Pebble Mine project. 

Yesterday they announced they are divesting themselves of their 19 percent stake in the project and donating it to the Alaska Community Foundation and the Bristol Bay Native Corporation Education Foundation.

Northern Dynasty re-acquires 100% ownership of Pebble Project

Northern Dynasty has now re-acquired 100% ownership and control of the Pebble Partnership. All Anglo American representatives have resigned from the Pebble Mines Corporation Board of Directors.

And the pipe dreams continue.

"During the course of the last six years and at a cost of US$556 million (as of September 30, 2013), substantial progress has been made toward our goal of permitting, constructing and operating a world-class, modern and environmentally responsible mine at Pebble that will co-exist with the fisheries resources of southwest Alaska," said Northern Dynasty President & CEO Ronald Thiessen.

Shively throws Northern Dynasty Under the Bus

When asked recently about the Pebble Mine Wardrop Report submitted by Northern Dynasty to the SEC, and now at the center of a possible investigation, Pebble Partnership CEO John Shively had this to say.

I actually asked (Northern Dynasty) not to issue that report because I thought it was premature.
