Fishermen Are More Likely to Get Struck By Lightning Than Anyone Else

This video uploaded by 16-year-old pro bass angler Tucker Owings shows just how close he and an unnamed companion came to being fried to a crisp.

Most lightning deaths in the United States occur while people are enjoying outdoor activities, with fishing the most deadly, government weather officials say.

In general, a significant lightning threat extends outward from the base of a thunderstorm cloud about 6 to 10 miles. Therefore, people should be in a safe place when a thunderstorm is 6 to 10 miles away.
