Unlike our friend from 127 Hours, Horlacher left a note

Geologist Craig Horlacher went out for an afternoon of solo fly fishing back in August 2010. Just into the beginning of his afternoon he managed to take a wrong step and both badly break his leg and get it stuck. Due to his injury and the way his foot was stuck, he was unable to leave the river.

Craig thought it might take two days for rescue. SIX, that's right six days later, rescuers found him delirious and babbling, leaning against three rocks he’d stacked up.

He gave the Denver Post an interview on the ordeal last week.

If he had been forced to cut his foot off he probably would have landed a big book and movie deal.

The Perils of Urban Fly Fishing

A cyclist riding along the Platte River Path in Denver, CO was seriously injured when he was snagged by a fly fisherman.

According to 9 News, a fly fisherman attempting to land a large fish crossed the bike path with his rig, leaving the fishing line draped across the trail. He pulled the line taut just as the cyclist passed by and snagged his helmet on the line. The cyclist lost control and landed in the hospital with a chipped bone in his spine, a concussion, broken pelvis, broken arm and multiple bruises and abrasions.

This could be bigger than when Oprah donned her wading jeans

On tomorrows episode of the Bachelor Ben Flajnik, the 29-year-old Sonoma, Calif. winemaker takes his remaining 13 bachelorettes fly fishing.

Donning fly fishing waders, the group -- and their leading man -- wade into the knee-deep water, but fail to snag any sea life.

That is, until frontrunner Courtney comes on the scene. Angering her fellow contestants when she pulls Flajnik aside for a one-on-one casting session, Courtney pours on the sap after catching her own fish.

Fly-fishers get snagged by proposed rule

An all-out blitz against salmon snagging on the Rogue River and other streams in Oregon could unintentionally mean nymph fishing with two or more flies would be banned during the early part of the summer steelhead fishing season.
