Fly fishing museum has opened in Cherokee, North Carolina


The Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians opened last week in Cherokee, giving visitors a chance to learn about the history of fly-fishing in the Southeast.

Catch of the Day

An off-duty county deputy in Florida was fishing in the Gulf of Mexico when he hooked something that wasn’t on the menu.

This isn’t the first recorded instance of “blowfish” though this time around the white stuff wasn’t hidden in an actual fish.

11-year-old makes fly-casting history

An 11-year-old girl from San Francisco turned the fly-casting world upside down last week. Nobody who has heard this tale can quite believe it.

At the U.S. National Casting Championships in Long Beach, Maxine McCormick finished fourth in fly casting accuracy behind only the world’s best, made the All-America team and bested the all-time women’s mark. That’s right, at age 11, she had the highest women’s score in history. She also broke seven junior national records in different events.

Yellowstone Approves Fish Restoration Project on Soda Butte Creek

Yellowstone National Park, in coordination with partner agencies Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Wyoming Game & Fish Department, and the US Forest Service, has approved a project to remove nonnative brook trout from Soda Butte Creek and reintroduce Yellowstone cutthroat trout into the stream as part of continued efforts to restore Yellowstone's native fish population.
