Tragedy spotlights fly fishing safety

Stay safe out there.

A deadly fall into the Metolius River by a Corvallis fisherman puts a spotlight on safety issues that can arise while pursuing what is usually a peaceful, serene sport.

Sad news, hopefully he was doing what he loved. That said, you have to fish certain areas with restraint. River "conditions" bring many factors into play, and are NOT just tied to flow. Get a wader belt and wear it, make sure you have experience swimming in river currents. Lastly, Fly Fishing is not a "hobby", it is instead a serious sport. Those who don't approach it seriously have no business on the water. Stamp collecting and model building are hobby's.
