Jonathan Fisher, owner of Urban Angler on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, which has supplied rods, reels and hand-tied flies to New York's fishermen for more than 20 years, shows one of his favorite bamboo rods.

I fish the Missouri River in Montana which is one of the most challenging dry fly rivers you will find anywhere. I feel the bamboo rod is much superior to graphite for delicate presentations to highly pressured trout. A bamboo rod is not an inferior fishing tool compared to a graphite rod, only a more expensive rod. It is sad that some anglers consider bamboo rods works of art to be displayed rather than to be used for catching fish.
inferior? I call BS on that as well as his knowledge of bamboo in general. Taking this guy's word from a Manhattan Fly Shop is akin to eating picante sauce from New York City!
