Sad news as one of the Pacific Northwest's steelheading legends, authors, and champions for wild fish has lost his battle to cancer. Doug Rose died peacefully at home on Monday surrounded by family and friends.
Take some time and explore Doug's website and blog to get a feel for the large legacy he leaves.

All my condolences to the family and friends.
So long Doug. You touched my life and I'll never forget it. R.I.P. Doug Rose.
My dad and I had a chance to fish with Doug a couple of years ago on the Hoh, Bogacheil and Calawah. Like his books, Doug was a fountain of information and history about steelhead and the Olympic Peninsula that day. Really great guy.
Doug was the embodiment of a master fly angler, and the epitome of a conservation steward and wild fish advocate. I am deeply grateful for our time shared together, which was often spent discussing the state of our wild fisheries and waters, the politics of management, and especially the life histories of our fish and wildlife and forests of the Olympic Peninsula. He was a great historian of the early years of fly fishing here, and his writings and observations on all things related to fly angling added a depth and warmth, and true humanity to our lives. We are all so much richer for having known him. He left us with a broad legacy of generosity. Take the lesson. Keep the love.
Sad day, all the best wishes and condolences to his family. I recently benefitted from the great info on his web site: http://dougroseflyfishing.com/index.html
Like all master fishers, God put him in charge of the fisheries dept. in another world.
